Job Description

The Assistant Administrator under the direction of the Principal serves as an instructional leader in teaching, planning, coordination, and administration of the school activities and programs, including curriculum, instruction, assessments, student conduct and attendance, athletics, and extracurricular programs. The Assistant Administrator serves as a liaison between the Principal, teachers and student body. The Assistant Administrator is to maintain the operation of the school in the absence of the Principal. The Assistant Administrator is accountable to the Principal of PASSAGE Christian Academy.


All duties of the Assistant Administrator are to be performed in accordance with the church vision and compliance with all appropriate regulatory authorities.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to and stay informed of Federal, State and local laws related to operating a private school and enforce school guidelines, administrative directives and regulatory requirements;

  • Train, assist and instruct instructional and non-instructional staff in classroom management;

  • Train, assist and instruct instructional and non-instructional staff to better understand and work more effectively with students having school-related issues or challenges;

  • Mentor new instructional and non-instructional staff and advise Principal of their development;

  • Assist the Principal in providing instructional leadership to the school;

  • Develop, administer and maintain disciplinary procedures in accordance with school policies and state laws;

  • Prepare required reports and paperwork such as discipline reports, suspension reports, expulsion paperwork, injury reports, parent communications, and other paperwork as assigned;

  • Respond to and resolve parent, student and staff concerns and complaints;

  • Assist the Principal in planning the annual schedule and curricular activities;

  • Assist Principal regarding the enrollment acceptance of potential candidates and placement of incoming students;

  • Monitor the progress to students’ educational development to ensure they are on the proper grade level;

  • Collaboratively develop an educational plan for all students enrolled;

  • Meet with parents and Instructor quarterly regarding the educational growth of each student; 

  • Supervises students on campus before and after-school; monitors students during lunch, recess and other periods;

  • Instruct students regarding inappropriate behavior and discipline students in accordance with the established guidelines;

  • Monitor and organize attendance functions; prepare letters, call parents and attend meetings as needed, regarding absent or tardy students, provide leadership for attendance improvement efforts;

  • Participate in formal and informal classroom visitation and observations and provide recommendations and suggestions for improvement as appropriate;

  • Collaborate with Principal to establish a safe and secure learning and working environment for students and staff;

  • Demonstrate a consistent commitment to effective ongoing communication between all members of the school community;

  • Act as a resource for instructional and non-instructional staff

  • Attend corporate, staff and parent meeting as required;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills

The Assistant Administrator shall be a professing Christian actively living out his/her faith and a person of spiritual maturity with proven academic and leadership skills and abilities.

 

Further, the Assistant Administrator shall:

​

  • Consistently demonstrate love for children and a servant-leader's attitude;

  • Hold a Master’s degree in education from an accredited post-secondary institution;

  • Have a minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience and/or school administrative experience, preferably in a Christian school;

  • Demonstrate computer literacy: proficiency is needed in word processing, spreadsheet design, e-mailing, general internet use, presentation software, etc.;

  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills;

  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment to Christian education; and

  • Maintain educational/administrative credentials

 

Physical Requirements:

​

  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation throughout the day.

  • Some tasks require visual perception.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and manipulate paper.

  • See to read, prepare documents and reports, and observe students.

  • Work at desk, conference table, and small student desk area or in a meeting in various configurations.

  • Hear and speak in presentations, and exchange information in person and on the telephone.

  • Some tasks require oral and written communications ability throughout the day.

  • Sufficiently fit and able to regularly perform bending, stooping, stretching, squatting, pushing, pulling, sitting, and walking throughout the day.

  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs to access the classroom and other rooms daily.

  • Withstand moderate to loud noise levels throughout the day.

  • Ability to interact with students during playground activities.

  • Perform other duties, projects, and tasks as assigned or directed by the Principal, PMI VP, or PMI CEO.

Skillset:

• Good written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks.

• Experience with a church membership management database is preferred.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and graphics software (e.g. Adobe InDesign) is preferred

• Proficiency in various social media platforms is essential.

• Experience training others in ministry activity and small group involvement.

• Experience with and the ability to engage diverse populations –generational, social, economic, and ethnic is desired
